Sport
Infants - Games are
Fun!
All children are encouraged to participate fully in games activities and
begin to learn to work as a team encouraging the idea of participation in team
games of football and rounders.
Children take part in
all activities which encourage the development of both gross and fine motor
skills. They learn to throw and catch balls, jump, hop, skip, ride
bicycles and climb apparatus. They
work towards BAGA gymnastic awards in order to improve balance and coordination
skills.
Each child is allocated
to a house and participates in the end of Year Fun Sports activities where the
emphasis is on taking part, learning a sense of fair play in an enjoyable
manner, whilst at the same time earning points for their House.
Juniors – Years 3 -
6
Sporting activities take on a more serious role in the Junior Department
with weekly swimming lessons at Aylestone Leisure Centre; an indoor session at
Parklands Leisure Centre playing
badminton, basketball, uni-hockey, dance and netball; and a weekly outdoors
session at Leicester University Sports Centre playing football, cricket, rounders, netball and athletics dependant
upon the season.
Seniors - Year 7 –
11
Seniors continue to swim weekly Aylestone Leisure Centre, play an indoor sports game
at Parklands Leisure Centre which can be
squash, netball, basketball, badminton, uni–bock, snooker and dance.
Or outdoor sports of cricket, football, tag rugby, cross country,
athletics at Leicester University Sports Centre.
Sports are rotated on an
‘as needs’ basis and are dependent upon the interest of the pupils and the
syllabus of GCSE PE.
All pupils rotate in all sporting activities.
Orienteering is now provided
from Year 3 upwards - much to the delight of the children!
House Captains
House Captains are chosen in Year 11 and these pupils lead the ‘warm
ups’ for Sports Day and help to select teams for the yearly swimming gala,
junior fun Sports Day and the School Sports Day.
Sport receives a
generous amount of time at St. Crispin’s as the Heads feel that it is an
important aspect of everyday life.
All pupils are
encouraged to leave school with one team sport and one individual sports that
they are able to play to a reasonable standard. |
