Foundation 1 and 2
The Foundation stage has a maximum of 32 available places, and is manned by NNEB qualified, caring and experienced staff.
Foundation 1
is for pupils aged 3+. A full time place is for 10 sessions (Monday
to Friday) and it is recommended that pupils attend for a minimum of five
sessions. All sessions are structured and timetabled, an important concept
for young children. If you wish your child to come part time, then the
morning session is from 8.40am to 12.30pm.
Full time is from 8.40am until 3.30pm. There are three terms in the
school year, averaging 12 weeks in each. Foundation 2 is aimed at the 4+ age range and combines the early learning goals with the more formal learning of Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum. A maximum of 16 places are available.
The Foundation years see a good balance of child-initiated play and child directed play,
alongside firm foundations in literacy and numeracy. The children work towards the QCA Foundation Profile, which is now linked to the National Curriculum and
incorporates the six early learning goals:
1.
Personal, social and emotional development
The
Foundation profile allows pupils to develop as individuals and move on to more formal learning
when they are ready. We always strive to bring out a child’s true
potential and make the school a place where children feel secure,
confident and happy. We teach them to develop a sense of achievement as
they learn the basic social and academic skills needed for their future.
Our
aim is to foster a family environment in which we can promote the ideals
of sharing, caring, politeness and consideration of others giving the
children the confidence to communicate with adults and other children in
standard play and academic learning. The Foundation Profile scores for 2004/05/06 are amongst the top for Leicester City. These are available upon request.
