Years 3 to 6 - Key Stage 2

In the Years 3 to 6 children work towards the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests in Year 6 and all the pupils sit the government optional tests for their age group every summer.  The timetable of the day is well structured and the children have access to a full and varied curriculum. Each child’s progress and national curriculum levels are regularly monitored.  Weekly records are kept both in respect of the effort being made and the national curriculum level being achieved.

Year groups have a class teacher who is responsible for their academic achievement and wellbeing. Class teaching provides a quiet learning environment where the teacher can recognise the individual learning needs of each pupil. Specialist teachers for French, History, Geography, Games and Music teach the pupils in Years 3 to 6 and this continues into the Senior School through to GCSE level.  This allows for a continuum of the pupil’s learning.

Parents’ Evenings are held annually but the Head and staff are able to see parents at other times by appointment, or at the beginning of the day (at 8.00am) to discuss matters of a more immediate nature. Pupils are encouraged to work hard and play hard. They are taught the three R’s of ‘Respect, Responsibility and Reason’ to encourage them to think about other people and their feelings. Good manners are instilled, and pupils are encouraged to participate in polite conversation with other adults and pupils.
